When a student signs in to a device, a teacher launches a lesson, or a classroom’s technology is ready to use, the work of CBSD’s Technology team is already making a difference.

On September 15, International IT Professionals Day, Columbia Borough School District is recognizing the Technology team members whose behind-the-scenes work helps create reliable, secure, and accessible learning environments for students and staff.

Technology has become a natural part of the learning experience. It gives students access to information and resources, creates opportunities to collaborate and create, and provides different ways for students to demonstrate what they have learned. For teachers, reliable technology means more time focused on instruction and less time managing technical issues.

CBSD’s Technology team helps make that possible by maintaining devices, monitoring networks and systems, managing accounts and applications, addressing security, planning upgrades, and troubleshooting issues. Their work supports the tools that connect students and teachers to instructional applications, digital resources, communication platforms, and classroom technology each day.

Brandon Cooley, a Technology Support Specialist in CBSD’s Technology Department, explained that his role is centered on supporting the people and systems that make learning possible.

“What I enjoy most is solving problems and helping people feel more confident using technology,” Cooley said.

The team’s impact is often most noticeable when technology works as it should. Much of the preparation happens before a device reaches a student’s hands or before a teacher needs a digital resource for a lesson.

“There is a lot that happens behind the scenes every day,” CBSD’s Assistant Director of Technology shared. “When everything is working smoothly, much of that work is invisible—and that is often a sign that our team is doing its job well.”

Cooley added, “Much of that work is most successful when it is invisible—everything is simply ready to use.”

Every Role Matters because student success depends on a network of people working together. While the Technology team may not always be directly in the classroom, its work is connected to the people who are—helping teachers teach, students learn, and schools stay connected.
