Office of Curriculum & Instruction

Dr. Crystal Martin, Assistant to the Superintendent for Instruction

Welcome to the Curriculum and Instruction pages of the Columbia Borough School District. Our schools provide each student with a high-quality core curriculum in English language arts, mathematics, science, social studies, and world languages; and many stimulating learning experiences in physical education/health, art, music, technology, and business education. The Columbia Borough School District is committed to preparing all students to achieve at the highest levels to meet the challenges of the 21st Century.

Each curricular area has identified standards for learning that guide classroom instruction and assessment. These standards articulate the skills, knowledge, and understandings we believe all students need in order to become educated, responsible, and productive citizens. Standards represent the essential understandings in the subject area discipline. Student performance towards these standards is measured by classroom assessments and state testings including PSSA and the Keystones.

Through a dynamic curriculum renewal process, the core curriculum of the Columbia Borough School District is revised regularly to ensure that the curriculum is aligned with identified Pennsylvania Academic Standards and designed to meet the needs of learners in the 21st Century and to make them college and career ready upon graduation.
