Extracurricular Position

Available Position: Music/Assistant Director

Position Statement:  The Musical Director will function as Assistant to the Drama Director and will provide input as to the suitability of productions under consideration for performance; will source, teach, and rehearse any music; and will, with the Drama Director, supervise students during rehearsal and production in such a way as to ensure their safety, and the security of the facility.

This position will assist the Director in assuring that the production runs smoothly, while helping to instill in the students a love of theatre, an excitement for performance, and a willingness to collaborate. S/he must possess excellent communication and organizational skills, must be self-motivated, efficient, and creative.

Specifically, the Music/Assistant Director shall:

  • participate in a production meeting prior to the start of the school year and as needed during preparation for Fall Play and for Spring Musical.
  • attend all auditions (including call backs if necessary) and provide input on casting decisions. Final casting decisions will be made by the Drama Director.
  • monitor drama group page prior to all rehearsals and performances for any messages regarding cast member absences.
  • communicate with the cast, as needed, regarding changes or additions to the rehearsal schedule and other items.
  • take attendance for cast members at each rehearsal and performance.
  • attend all rehearsals and performances.

Additional duties during Spring Musical are as follows:

  • Audition singers and make casting recommendations to the director
  • Schedule music rehearsals in collaboration with the director
  • Help cast members learn their music
  • Lead music rehearsals for principals and chorus
  • Provide rehearsal accompaniment
  • Work with the Pit Director to facilitate transition from rehearsal accompaniment to performance with live pit
  • Work with the sound technicians when microphones will be used

Qualifications: Excellent oral and written communication skills. Excellent organizational and leadership skills. Knowledgeable in all aspects of theatre, including design, lighting, sound, costume and acting technique. Strong musical sense with knowledge styles, theory and history. Excellent interpersonal skills

POSITION OPENING

POSITION TITLE:           Unified Indoor Bocce Head Coach

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the administration of the high school’s after school Unified Indoor Bocce program.  A Unified Indoor Bocce team is composed of a proportional number of students who are Special Olympics-eligible (defined as students with an intellectual disability, cognitive delay, or developmental disability) and students without intellectual disabilities.
  • Practices begin the first week of December and the season runs through March 2.  There are a minimum of two after school practices a week and three competitions.
  • Liaison regularly with the school’s athletic director and Special Olympics Pennsylvania to ensure quality program standards are being met.
  • Develop and implement practice plans in which bocce instruction and coaching is provided to all participants.
  • Impart the philosophy of a positive inclusive sports experience by following the principles of Unified Sports®.
  • Plan and manage tactics and strategies at Unified Indoor Bocce competitions.
  • Recruit a proportional number of students who are Special Olympics-eligible (defined as students with an intellectual disability, cognitive delay, or developmental disability) and students without intellectual disabilities.
  • Handle any paperwork or administrative duties required by the school district and/or Special Olympics Pennsylvania.
  • If serving as a host site for a Unified Indoor Bocce competition, recruit at least two volunteer bocce officials for every bocce court being used.
  • Attend the free Unified Sports® Indoor Bocce Coaches’ Training in your county.  Complete the free online Special Olympics coaches’ courses.
