Turning Taylor into a terrific place to learn and thrive
Welcome to Columbia Middle School–Taylor Campus! Mr. Patterson and I are looking forward to the opportunity to work with your child. The faculty and staff at Taylor Campus are dedicated to providing a positive educational experience for all of our students. Our wish is that we can help your child to excel to his/her greatest potential.
CMS–Taylor Campus provides a wide variety of academic programs with your child’s abilities in mind. We have a well-rounded curriculum with emphasis in the areas of reading and math to maximize the educational achievements of our students. In Math, we will be implementing a new math program, Eureka Math, for the entire middle school. This curriculum is fully aligned to the PA Common Core and will develop and strengthen our students’ math abilities and prepare them for higher level math courses in high school.
For Reading, we currently use the Scott Foresman Reading Street curriculum. Our reading instruction consists of whole group instruction, small group instruction, phonics, spelling, and writing. Students will be grouped according to their reading needs utilizing the Response to Intervention (RtII) process. RtII is about matching student’s needs with high quality researched based educational practices and interventions in measuring student progress and performance to make the best educational decisions for all students. We look forward to meeting the needs of all of our students. We also use additional materials from NewsELA and other internet resources to supplement our materials.
Teachers are also trained in the hybrid rotational model and use this model frequently to teach their lessons. We are also 1:1 with computers. Each student will be issued a computer to utilize during the school day for all of their classes, and the computers will be kept in the students’ homeroom to be charged. If you have any questions about this initiative, please contact the school.
We believe that your child’s educational experience will be enhanced if parents become actively involved at their child’s school. I would like to invite you to become an active member in our CMS Parent Committee, serve as a volunteer, and attend Parent Teacher Conferences. The best way to assist your student is to read with them at least twenty minutes daily. Your participation will play an important role in your child’s educational career.
Our mission at Columbia Middle School–Taylor Campus is for the staff to provide the opportunity for all students, according to their abilities, to become successful, productive citizens. WE ARE COLUMBIA!
Once again, welcome to Columbia Middle School–Taylor Campus! Working together as parents and educators, we can make your student’s years at CMS–Taylor Campus some of the most successful of their school career.
